Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

I read Pretty Little Liars while on vacation in India with my mother. The main reason I read it was because I was obsessed with the TV show at the time, it was when I was in high school, in 2011. Since then, I’ve continued reading the series. But I haven’t watched the TV show to the end, and probably never will. It’s gone so off the rails…

You know what they say about hope. It breeds eternal misery!

Prettly Little Liars

First things first, here’s the synopsis of the book :

Three years ago, Alison, a teenager from an elite school in Pennsylvania, disappeared after a slumber party, not to be seen since. Her friends from school mourned her, but they also breathed secret sighs of relief. Each of them guarded a secret that only Alison had known.

Now they have other secrets that could sink them in their gossip-hungry world. When each of them begins receiving anonymous emails and text messages, panic sets in, are they being betrayed by someone in their circle? Or even worse: Could Alison be back?

I first read this book because I was a massive fan of the TV Show back in 2011 when I was 16. So, my review of Pretty Little Liars may be kind of biased because that was almost ten years ago.

At the time that I read it, Pretty Little Liars was one of the few books that made me want to read more, except maybe Harry Potter. The more I read, the more I wanted to read. So much so that I finished the book in under two days. I wanted to know what happened next so severely I even convinced my mom to buy me the next one on her iPad.

As I said, when I was 16, I didn’t read a lot when it wasn’t for school. So this book changed things for me and put me on the path that I am now. Pretty Little Liars is one of the reasons why I signed up on Goodreads. But most of it, reading it made me want to read more. Pretty Little Liars is also one of the first books I read in English. Because at the time, it wasn’t a language I was comfortable with.

That’s the end of my personal experience with it. I’ll try to make a more objective review now. So, if you already watched the TV Show, you mostly know what the book is about. Mainly because they didn’t make that many changes. At least at first.

Pretty Little Liars is an entertaining Young Adult book, full of mystery. It almost reads like a teenage soap, which is a reason why I liked it so much. I highly recommend it to anyone searching for a fun read!
