Insurgent by Veronica Roth

Insurgent by Veronica Roth

Insurgent (Divergent, #2)

Same as the first book in the Divergent series, I read Insurgent after the movie came out. I didn’t want to be the person who points out every little difference between the film and the book! :p I liked both the movie and the book even though they were much different. If you haven’t read it yet, you can find my review for Divergent right here!

Cruelty does not make a person dishonest, the same way bravery does not make a person kind.

The story picks up almost right after the end of the first. With Tris, her brother and Four, and his father fleeing from the city. The events that took place in the first book, the massacre of Tris’s original faction has made her fled the town. Because people now know that she and Four are Divergent, and they are being hunted.

Factions, mainly Dauntless and Erudite, are growing more and more powerful by the day. And a coup is sure to be happening soon. Conflicts become between the factions and their different ideologies.

Every one took refuge in the Amity part of the city. Located far away from all the other factions as they are the ones who farm the land. Tris is torn between the guilt about her parents’ death and her desire to do something to make their end mean something. She uncovers more and more of Erudite’s plan to take power in the city.

I loved this book because even though it is a change from the first, we can still see the main plot that appeared in the first book in the second. And, contrary to most of the series that I read, we can see the real growth of the characters, they learn from their mistakes.

I especially liked Tris’s transformation. In the first book, I didn’t like her.  Mainly because it seemed that she was always complaining about something instead of doing them, but in this novel, she took the initiative. She changed for the better and became a stronger and tougher woman who now possesses everything she needs to survive in her world.

I would highly recommend to everyone who read the first book of the series to read Insurgent. It’s a great continuation of a great and entertaining series.
